Miss Indian New Mexico LI

Gwendolynn Sandoval

San Felipe Pueblo/Acoma Pueblo

Guu’wa’dzi Hauba!

Today when leaving Ohkay Owingeh I was holding my sister while taking her to her new home for a year. I was talking to her and telling her "everything will be okay!" Giving her little small talk here and there to make her feel safe and welcomed. Once when stepping into Katistyah (San Felipe Pueblo) I was holding my sister close and I told her "Welcome Home!". As we drove into our yard, my family were waiting for us there at the entrance of our house and my sister was greeted with open hearts and a warm welcome. This is the first time in Miss Indian New Mexico history that a Katistyah'meh is holding a title and I am happy to bring her home to the pueblos of San Felipe and Acoma. Denica Tafoya my little sister I am extremely happy to be your older sister to watch you grow and become a very beautiful bright young indigenous women. I can't wait for what this year brings for the both of us. We both made our pueblos proud! Thank you to everyone who gave me such beautiful wise words and advice and I hope that our Great Creator blesses you all and throughout with good health and prosperity. With that being said I am your new Miss Indian New Mexico LI (51) and I can't wait to meet each and everyone one of you beautiful people across this beautiful state we call the Land Of Enchantment and I am proud to represent the 24 tribes of New Mexico as your new ambassador.
